ADVOCACY / RESOLUTIONS
AHEC advocates and influences disease prevention and health promotion legislation and policy making on local and state levels. AHEC members work with policy makers to promote sound health-related policies. AHEC members pass resolutions in support of programs and policies based on current research and educational theory and practice.
AHEC has taken a position on many health related issues including:
- Smoking and second hand smoke
- Tobacco taxes
- Comprehensive School Health Education
- School lunch programs
- Vaccinations
- Safety belt laws
- Helmet use
- Patient education
- Health and wellness
- Diabetes
- Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS)
- HIV/AIDS
AHEC was involved in the production of the following documents:
- Strengthening Health Promotion and Health Education in Alaska for the 21st Century (1999)
- Prevention is the Key to Better Health and Health Care Economy (2004)
