Membership
AHEC’s membership includes individuals and representatives from tribal health organizations, educational institutions, nonprofit health organizations, government health agencies, and private consultants. Alaskans who are interested in health education and
health promotion are also invited to join: Join AHEC.
Membership allows professionals to keep current on the priorities and activities of state
and local health departments and organizations. Meetings are held to offer continuing education, review policy recommendations and share member updates on activities and programs. The annual meeting in Anchorage is held in the fall. Additional meetings during the year may be held in Anchorage, Juneau or other rural locations as possible
As an AHEC member, you can become involved in health education and health promotion statewide by participating in one of the four standing committees:
- Membership – Maintains membership communications and recruits new members and organizations.
- Continuing Education – Coordinates professional development opportunities. Approves and promotes continuing education credits for Certified Health Education Specialists (CHES).
- Marketing – Promotes the organization and the benefits of participating. Provides awards in recognition of excellence in health education and health promotion in Alaska.
- Advocacy – Advocates and influences health education and health promotion related legislation and policy on local, state and national levels.
